the loneliness of the middle distance runner

Ecos #2

I’m really pleased to be a collaborating with Nuno Direitinho on the second instalment of Ecos at Zaratan, Lisboa. Ecos is a quarterly cycle of multimedia installations Curated by Lise Bardou.

Each time two artists are invited to relate their work among themselves and within the space of Zaratan, playing with the different levels, connecting with the elements (earth, stones, and dust) and the materiality that it offers. The physical space becomes a possibility in which to generate a 3-dimensional effect with the moving images installed and projected.

Titled In the possible event, Thursday night’s event could be best described as;

A time-based installation responding to Zaratan’s performance space, inviting an audience to attempt to grasp an echo that binds our memorial past, present and future, consequently rendering them interchangeable. Ecos #2 will reoccur beyond the parameters of the cycle’s one-night-only format through an everlasting agreement between audience members, Zaratan and the artists.

It happens, for one night only, Thursday 21st February from 19.00, we hope you can make it…

Shopless – screening and talk

Screen Shot 2018-08-30 at 12.28.22

I’m super pleased to have Shopless, a video essay-come-soliloquy I’ve made recently, screened at g39, Cardiff this Saturday from 6pm. The film was made from documentation material from a performance reading of the same name at Zaratan Arte Contemporanea, Lisbon earlier in August and was made with the help of g39’s Anthony Shapland and supported by Arts Council Wales. On the night I’ll be sharing a thematic cocktail and some thoughts on presenting writing.

The event is part of a bumper programme of talks and events running throughout g39’s UNITe project.

I’m pleased to have contributed to the brand new issue of CCQ Magazine with an interview with Copenhagen’s Hari Shankar Kishore (a.k.a HVAD)

Here’s a synopsis:

Hari Shankar Kishore, otherwise known as HVAD, works across myriad disciplines: DJ, performance and visual artist and maker of experimental electronic music, Kishore met Sam Perry during Copenhagen Art Week, where an exhibition – Kommunal Dubplate Service – brought together the Danish artist’s designs, artwork, performance imagery, ephemera, recordings from his Dubplate Service and even elements of his recording studio.

Zaratan Arte Contemporânea AIR

Greetings from Zaratan Arte Contemporânea, Lisbon, Portugal, where I’m in residence for the month of March, a kind of Part 2 of Shopless, an experimental writing and performance project I began at Hangar Centro de Investigacao Artistica, Graca, Lisbon in February 2017. From the other side of town, at the foot of the other enormous hill where the artist-led gallery Zaratan sits, I’m working towards a multimedia performance reading session on Thursday March 29th, where I will be showing visual and written research meandering from inner space, clementines and missing tiles.

Crossing Paths

Roll Credits..., Sam Perry image 3, Image Credit Joe Moody, 2018

I’m de-lighted to be part of the event Roll Credits… – a kind of closer for the immaculately brilliant exhibition The Conversation by Holly Davey at g39.

A bit about Roll Credits… ;

An afternoon of experimental text – based performances by artists, poets and writers responding to Holly Davey’s exhibition ‘The Conversation’. As part of the exhibition’s final day, Davey has commissioned Bruno Diaz, Alison Gibb, Freya Dooley and Cinzia Mutigli, and Sam Perry to respond to the themes of the work. She has invited the texts to be performed within the installation, encouraging a change to the projections, sound and lighting within the space.  ‘The Conversation’ will become a new version of itself animated by the performer’s voice, a reconfigured stage set, and the presence of a watching audience.

Sat 3rd Feb, 4-6-ish, g39, Cardiff
